I wanted to save this for mother’s day, because my mom is sort of a gear head and has owned at least a few Oppo dream cars (including a 1963 Stingray—purchased new—and a first generation MR2, which is my earliest memory of being in a car, because obviously it babied), but I didn’t get posting privileges until after that.
About a year ago, I was talking to my mom and I showed her a photo of an E-Type.
Me: “This is usually considered to be the most beautiful car ever designed.”
My mom: “Hmm. That’s a little Jaguar coupe? I had that.”
Me: “What?”
My mom: “My father bought me one. Maybe in 1964? 1965? I liked that car.”
Me: “You had a Series 1 E-Type?”
My mom: “I had that car.”
Me: “... What color was it? Red?”
My mom: “It was sort of a green. I don’t like green cars, but it was a dark green. It was really pretty.”
Me: “... You had a British Racing Green E-Type? You owned my favorite car in my favorite color? And you sold it? Do you know how much that car would be worth today?”
My mom: “Not much, I was racing someone not long after I got it and crashed through a fence and hit a tree. It was totaled”

My mom was really spoiled, but also my grandfather had a home building business during a housing boom and was selling aluminum siding for Alcoa at the same time, which he primarily sold to himself and kept the commission. He did okay.

I know them feels. Albeit on a more plebian level. My dad had a late 60's Camaro RS/SS when he was younger. Sold it around the time I was born because he needed money and a more practical car.

I’ve driven a LHD convertible and a RHD hardtop - both Series 1. Those cars are among the most involving I’ve ever driven - ‘76 2002 was the best, most direct handling.

I can definitely understand that. I’m still better about the MR2 that my mom sold before I had my license.
Also, no joke, my mom had either a ‘67 or ‘68.

I’m so jealous. A hard-top Series 1 is my dream car. I’m determined to do this at some point: https://shop.jaguar.com/experiences/ex…
